SIGHTSEEING AND TOURS
The central part of Warsaw, known as the ‘Old Town’, was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. Following the end of the war it has been carefully rebuilt and in 1980 it was appointed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ‘Old Town’ is impressive with its Royal Castle, narrow alleys, elegant town houses, churches and architectural monuments.
With its association with Frederic Chopin, it is no surprise to learn that Warsaw has a strong cultural heritage as well as a modern music scene. Musical events range from open air piano concerts to the annual ‘Jazz Jamboree’. In addition to the Grand Theatre of Opera and Ballet there are numerous theatres, art galleries and museums. In particular, the Wilanow Poster museum is world-renowned. Sightseeing tours will be available and can be booked either through the Conference hotels or via the Conference Registration Desk.
FACTORY VISIT
The management of the ZAP Sznajder Batterien automotive battery factory at Piastow, near Warsaw, have kindly agreed to host a visit by ELBC delegates on the afternoon of Tuesday 23 September. Places may be reserved when completing the Conference Registration Form. Early reservation is advised as the number of visitors to the factory is limited. Coaches will leave the Hilton Hotel at 14.00 and return at about 17.00.

ZAP Sznajder Batterien SA is a dynamic Polish battery manufacturer with an 80-year history. The company was set up in 1925 and has been producing lead-acid batteries on the same site ever since. Since 2000, when Lech Sznajder took over the factory, a wide-ranging modernization programme has resulted in higher quality products and a considerable increase in output. In 2007 ZAP produced a record 1.1 million SLI batteries for both the OEM and replacement markets using modern technologies and highly qualified staff. The company employs quality and environmental management systems consistent with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO/TS 16949.
