Consortium for Battery Innovation
The Consortium for Battery Innovation
(CBI) is the only global pre-competitive research organization promoting innovation in lead batteries for energy storage, motive and automotive applications.
For more than 25 years, the Consortium has delivered cutting-edge research taking lead batteries to a new level.
Lead batteries are critical to supporting the way we live now, from the cars we drive to the back-up for cell phones and data centers. And they are vital to providing the rechargeable energy storage the world needs to transform the way it consumes and uses electricity.
With an expert panel made up of the world’s leading battery manufacturers and research specialists, the Consortium is setting the standard for advanced lead batteries and the next generation of energy storage. Members have commissioned research into advanced lead batteries to help meet the needs of global energy storage.
Membership and achievements
Our global membership all share the common aim of inspiring the latest research to help develop the next generation of advanced lead batteries.
CBI offers its members the opportunity to be at the forefront of cutting-edge research projects focused on advancing lead battery performance in innovative applications with some of the world’s leading research institutions. Members also have the opportunity to participate in government-funded projects co-ordinated by CBI, and can specify support for specific areas such as energy storage demonstration projects.
All members of CBI can submit project proposals and receive early notice of technical advances in lead battery technology that are likely to translate into commercial applications.
Technical workshops and meetings are held throughout the year in North America, Europe and Asia, facilitating the sharing of technical information and networking with the global industry. Collaborative workshops are also organised in conjunction with end-users such as car manufacturers.
